I don't get what the big hype is about. Aero road frames are nothing new, cervelo have had them for years, Canyon have one, Felt have aero frames.

Spesh have just joined in as well.

Did I miss something? I wouldn't call a few people on a cycling forum saying "that's a nice bike" a furore...

Not the forum response, the press response...

Some close-ups of Cavs bike on Velonews and Cyclingnews but the Spesh marketing team are getting plenty of coverage incl. these forums. If enough people talk about the bike then their job is part done. Look at the Chinny electric bike story to see how t'net can get things going; similarly the Cecchini bearings

Well, Spesh have done their homework as it seems to be on most of the cycling websites I look at, but is that really that different from what any other manufacturer do? No point in making the greatest bike in the world if nobody knows about it (and I'm not suggesting that Specialized make the greatest bikes...)

But the video on Bike Radar is worth checking out. The gasps of silence from the 2010 Saxo Bank squad when the guy from Specialized reveals the new frame from a Mavic wheel bag are fantastic!

Heh heh, I had to take a look to see what you were talking about. Kind of says it all when some of the guys who are going to have to ride the thing around all day are struggling to find anything worthwhile to say about it. I mean, what can you say when looking a frame, other than whether it looks nice or horrible.

I've been in a similar position at a bike shop when they were showing me a new top of the range frame. I tried to be polite commenting on the paint job and how light it was, but was struggling to find any topics of interest worth mentioning.
  • OK, so Spesh didn't come up with the idea of a aero road bike, that would either go to Cervelo or Felt? And their marketing blurb is pretty funny, where their designer says it was his dream to create such a bike. But then they have to sell it somehow, it's no good saying we ripped off someone else's idea. The marketing doesn't make it a bad bike.

If Mike Sinyard offered me one to have a go on tomorrow, I woudn't say no! Mind you, I wouldn't buy one either, I don't have that kinda cash lying around the house at the moment!

Yes, I like the look of the McLaren model, but it's too expensive. But then the S-Works model, which would be a more "sensible" buy, looks rubbish!

Yes its bloody exspensive. But its a Halo product with the worlds best sprinter on it.
How many people went out and purchased Treks on the back of LA's affiliation to them and not many of those Treks were Madones.
I m sure Scott shifted more units in the UK since Cav and HTC used them and now he's on a Spesh (not that they need to shift too many more bikes) the world and its wife will ride one ( yer I know they already do )

Good Luck to Cav and HTC for tomorrow.

p.s Seen the olympics course its a shoe in for Cav surely?

It's really just subjective, but stacked up against a C59, the new Look, the Ulteam or tha new super Cervelo it doesn't look as good imo. When Nap D got his 50 the response on here was overwhelmingly +ve. Similarly the R3 always gets a lot of praise. Someone I know just got himself a 50 with DA and Ksyriums for £1050. Will this Spesh be wowing us 8/9 years on?
Anyway,v.expensive for what it is but you pays your money.........

That's easily solved. Buy the S-Works, strip and send it to a good quality paint shop who can replicate the McLaren finish. Would cost a lot less.

Just got back from the bike shop, who are a Spesh dealer and you can also get the S Works model in what they call Project Black, basically a black frameset. So all you need is to buy that for £2,500 and some red insulation tape!

I think "looks rubbish" is a bit strong TBH - what it needs is a set of wheels which don't have such busy and clashing graphics.
    I’m a sprinter – I warmed up yesterday.

It's the frame I don't like, but they are doing one in plain black which looks alot better. IMO :D
