Ghost Rider?

And no not the film.

I've been pondering this all morning and can only conclude that I think I saw a ghost rider this morning on the way into work.

I left the house about an hour earlier than normal at about 0630, so I was riding in 'half-light'. Riding along a section of country road, with no side turnings, I could see a cyclist about 200 yards ahead of me. I was a little bemused as he/she was dressed completely from head (helmet) to foot in black, with no lights. He/she was going at a reasonable pace, so as there was a stupidly strong headwind, I though I'd chase them down and wheel suck for a while. I started to get closer and got to within roughly 50 yards of them. And then, when I looked up again, they'd gone. Completely disappeared. I looked into the hedge/ditch to see if they'd fallen off, but again nothing. I could easily see half a mile or so up the road either way and again, nothing.

I'm not normally bothered by 'supernatural' stuffs, but this one has freaked me out a bit.

    Hmm.. strange!

I'd suggest staying off the crack until at least 7.30pm. :P

But that is weird, never had that before. That said, I can barely keep up with anyone these days, let alone chase someone down in a headwind!!

If it's not performance enhancing, then I'm not interested...

    I did - incase I'd overtaken them...
    Taken your meds?

Religously, but they don't affect what I see, not matter how much I take...

you were up at half 5, tiredness can trick your brain into seeing all sorts when its tired, shadows, lamposts, bins etc all turn into people for me when caught in periphery when tired. if you look directly at them its just a bin.

    could of been that?

Was out on my motorbike one time and was more than a little surprised to find my rear view mirrors filled with dark blue car.

Started to make progress (as you do), took a few corners enthusiastically and opened it up on the next straight.

Looked in the mirrors - no car, nothing. No turn-offs or anything. It had simply...disappeared*

    * tbh this happens a lot with an R1

I think the last time you played on your play station you left ghost mode on, so what you were seeing was yourself on your fastest commute, hence when you caught the ghost it cancelled it out?

    El Cap,

Do some research on fatal accidents involving cyclists on that stretch of road. I would for sure.
Personally I've never seen a "ghost" but I'd love to!

  • heroine is a very powerful drug.

id either stay of it before work, or ride in but paint yourself a hi viz colour so other riders/ road users know to stay out of the way and therefore avoid any confusion.

also, the rider in question was probibally aware of the awesomeness aproaching from behind and decided to hide so as to escape the shame of being over taken by such a person.
