Scratches

Right, I was looking at a new bike, and saw a pretty good deal, but the shop rang me, afer I had reserved it, to say there were some pretty deep scratches on the frame. There is only one left, and it is a 2010 model, so not able to wait for more stock.

How serious is this? I am not too bothered about aesthetics - if I ride fast enough, no one will see, anyway! But if the scratch is right down to the metal, should I leave it, or is it easily fixable, and worth trying to get even more money off?

Thanks!

James

I'd haggle for more money off and then just touch up the scratches if they've gone down to bare metal. Halfords et al do a range of little touch-up paint things; bit like a mascara with a brush in the lid. Find a close enough colour match plus a clearcoat, and I doubt anyone else will ever notice.

If, however, by scratch, they actually mean a gouge caused by some tw@t allowing the bike to fall over against something sharp, ignore the above and get a second opinion.

Unfortunately, I fear it is the gouge option. Although, the guy didn't sound too knowledgeable on the phone. Will check it out tonight.

I am defintely going to try and get money off, if it is their last one, and it is damaged, they must be itching to get rid of it, for cheap!
