I'm currently in the market for a entry level MTB and was looking at a Cannondale Trail SL2 in a LBS, i was just wondering if i need to spend £799 or if it's lesser quality counterparts are just as good a bike for the relative price/quality drop, I want the bike for only off road use i already have a commuter so i want a dedicated MTB for weekend play. However i live in Manchester so not close to really hard downhill trails (That i am aware of) so i'm not sure whether i NEED the SL2 or if the SL4 would be a suitable bike to learn on.
My main concern is if i want to upgrade is the cannondale frame a good platform to added better forks etc if and when i need them?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers in advance

I reckon the SL2 is a better buy as a starter trail bike.
It's only my opinion but i think there are a few weak links in the spec of the SL4.2014 Giant Anthem 27.5 1
