Ive got a matt black specialized hub (unknown model) on my rear wheel, the freehub has developed a slight clicking that can be felt through the chainset under load.

following inspection, after removal of the cassette, there is definately a tiny bit of play.

I decided I would strip down the hub and re-grease the freehub before I contemplate replacement.

the end cups are simply pushed on retained by a 2mm hex grub screw.

beneath is 2 sealed bearing cartridges, however I cannot figure out how to actually extract the freehub. do I need to press the bearings out in order to remove the freehub ?

Regards

have you removed the axle yet? ( i guess not) do so. they normally exit from the non drive side then use the axle to remove the drive side bearing.

then have a look at how the body is held on the hub. (if it has not already come off ;) )

  • I am assuming the axel is pressed in with quite a bit of force, not having the proper tools to do this and replace the bearings would I be better to take this to a specialist ?
