I've got a Cannondale R400 which uses I think a CAAD3 frame its fitted with the following
Campagnolo Centaur 9 speed
FSA compact carbon chainwheel
Mavic Krysium Elitte wheels
Xpro Carbon handlebars
San Marco Superleggera carbon saddle
All up weight under 7kg

Unfortunately I got knocked off the bike by the motorist and the rear wheel and frame are damaged, the insurancee wants to give me 400€ but I can't buy a new frame and rear wheel for that price, I have however found a Cannondale CAAD4 Saeco R2000/3000 version in an advert, it appears to have:

Shimano Ultegra 9 speed
Shimano Ultegra chainwheel
Mavic Krysium Wheels
etc

My question is can I swap the Shimano chainwheel and bottom bracket for the FSA equally will the chain run on the teeth if I put the Shimano equipped rear Mavic hub or should I rebuild if possible the wheel using the original Campagnolo hub. I'd equally if its possible to do recover the Campagnolo brake levers. The other thing is are the handlebar stem and seat pillar sizes the same on both frames. I can post photo's but not sure of the technique in this forum .

I'd be expecting the insurance company to buy me a completely new bike.

Yes, the FSA and Shimano chainsets could be swapped. However, you can't run a Shimano cassette with a Campag rear mech and Campag shifters. You'd need a Campag hub and cassette or you could fit a Shiftmate.

    get a quote to fix/replace

that's what you want from the insurance company

presumably this is the driver's insurance? either way, they're having a laugh unless it's your own insurer and you are under-insured

accept nothing less, admit nothing, concede nothing

if you haven't already completed the police report, get it done (go to station, get the wad of paper for reporting the incident)

the only way to deal with these people is go for the throat, if they don't stop screwing you around, contact one of the legal attack dog companies who advertise in the back of cycling weekly

don't forget to claim for any damage to clothing, extra expenses etc.
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
  • Yes sorry I forgot to say thanks to both of you for the advice, I eventually bought a CAAD 10 Ultegra.
