When i remove it from the 10 speed Shimano hub, will i need a spacer to "replace" it?

Well I haven't removed my one - but on being out at the weekend the freewheel seemed to be 'catching' occasionally. On getting home I noticed that the disk has come loose and is fouling the biggest sprocket. So I'll have to cut it off before using the bike again.

Do you mean a spoke protector disc?

They don't affect the cassette spacing, no spacer required. They clip onto the spokes usually.

+2 They attach to the spokes; no implications for cassette spacing. Just nibble it away with pliers if you can't be bothered to take the cassette off.
