Anyone got any recommendations for jerseys for a "chunky" (aka could lose a few (dozen) pounds) please?

skintight racing snake clothes need not apply, need something that doesn't highlight my moobs (which I am aiming to lose...)

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Then again, every time you put the skintights on you'll see the difference. Can't beat a spot of positive feedback. :)

The baggier the clothing, the more drag, thats my excuse anyway.

I am no svelte racing snake, but who cares what you look like!!

Altura do a lot of their stuff in larger sizes (I'm 6' 5" and certainly chunky, but it fits me fine).

Very few stores carry the bigger sizes, but there is lots online.

Don't worry about skin tight, just make sure it is Black.
Like you I could do with losing quite a few pounds. Tried on a white top and nearly cried with shame. Tried on a red top and again nearly cried. Tried on a black top and bought it instantly

    www.prendas.co.uk great stuff and service
  • As a former chunkster from 18 months ago, I can whole heartedly recommend Ebay. I bought myself 5 XXL trade team jerseys at between £10 & £15 each which saved me a fortune. After a solid seasons use and massive weight loss I resold them on Ebay and replaced them with Mediums for this coming season. :D

I just bought a XXLarge Polaris hi viz jacket and it reveals my (slight) belly in quite an alarming fashion. I think they are all prejudiced against the fuller figured rider.

+1 for Endura and Altura. Before losing a few pounds and experimenting more with the Euro-gimp look :) , I stuck to the Endura and Altura cycling tops. One of them (can't remember which) make a relaxed top that is more like a MTB top in size but still comes with three good sized pockets on the back. In general, I've found MTB tops to be a better fit for the larger gentleman. As a general rule, stick to UK and USA manufacturers and avoid Italian!

Thanks all, this is great. Am embarking on some weight loss efforts - I'm a chunky monkey but not totally massive (well, 13st ish and 5'9", no comments please) so it sounds like a black Altura might fit the bill - have some Altura baggy shorts anyway so would mix nicely.

Don't suppose anyone could recommend a decent windproof while we're at it? I end up wetter on the inside when I use my North Face waterproof

PS: FWIW, North Face stuff is cr*p, zips break IME

5'9'' and 13 stone - is that all? You'll be in tight lycra from head to toe in no time :)
Do you mean a windproof jacket, as opposed to a waterproof? I've got two Gore Phantom II jackets - great for autumn to spring use. (There are lots of reviews and recommendations on other threads.)

I may be slightly understating my mass

As for me in lycra top to toe - don't, my missus would die laughing

Windproof it is - isn't Gore stuff dead costly? I'm a relatively low spending low mileage bike person...although I could use it for commuting...
