one more thing if youve got a minute ive got rochshox rlt air forks and need to know 2 things about them , firstly is when i tighten the stem how tight should i do the top cap , is it just a case of gently nipping it up as i dont have any torque tools ,
and the other thing was that when i lock the fork out it still compresses quite easily under pressure , to have a solid lockout is it down to more pressure in the positive chamber, ive tried reading up on them but its a bit confusing, thanks again for the help

Top cap should be done up before the stem/steerer clamp bolts (on the side). It should take the play out of the headset. You can test this by locking the front brake and rocking the bike back and forth. If you can feel a knocking in the headset the top cap is too loose.

Yes, it's quite OK to cut down MTB bars. A lot of them have markings showing you where to cut to achieve a specific length.

But make sure you really want to cut them. 710mm width is actually just about right.

If you've got 'lock-on' grips that can be moved around, why don't you try moving the levers and grips in a bit, and riding with them for a while, see if you prefer it. If it's doesn't feel better, try moving them out, and again, see if that feels better.

So don't assume that your 710mm is only for downhill riding. Forget all this DH/FR/AM/XC category nonsense and just get your bike feeling good for you :D
