What kind of shed, sorry motor is it?

The mrs '07 Fiesta had its 2nd MOT last week, just needed a couple of wiper blades.

    *sharp intake of breath*

My own recently-departed Focus never failed an MOT but it had sh*tloads of things go wrong with it in between times.

I remember the last MOT on my trusty old Toyota Celica GT4. I had run it for 10 years and clocked over 200,000 miles in it. I had not spent one penny on it in all that time - just tyres and pads. Nothing had ever gone wrong and it sailed through every service and MOT without a hitch......and then it failed its MOT in spectacular style.

£2,400 of repairs! Just about every critical component on the car decided to go at the same time. I was gutted. Had my motorcycle nicked the same week as well. :(
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

My civic had it's first MOT a couple of weeks ago, passed with flying colours and they had an offer on too, MOT's £19.99. :)

colleage put his corsa in for mot the other week and they kindly replaced his wiper blades which had failed the mot, obviously they charged him for this service till he pointed out that the blades had been fitted by the self same garage just before christmas :P

I had a VW corrado 16v beast that was similar to this, i just hope my focus is alright as i am trying to save cash to get out of my shared house and into a house with the mrs.

Its having a service at the same time and they have had it since 7.30am when they opened and i havent heard anything, so is no news good news??

I trust the garage, which is rare, he fought tooth and nail to get compensation from ford when clutch kits they kept supplying failed after 10 miles and i got £200 so i hope this is a good deal!

MOT's are always a worry. The current Cakemobile hasn't had a problem yet. Was a bit nervous after I'd had the engine 'tweeked' that it wouldn't pass the emmissions test.

Most spectacular fail was my Fourtrak - the chassis was fine, the bodywork was fine, it was just where they met (or didn't) that was the problem. You could actually lift the body off the chassis at the rear - I'd not noticed anything when driving it...

    RESULT

    garage just rang

1 Rear Fog Light Bulb and a test pass certificate was issued.

the service needed oil, oil filter, fuel filter, pollen filter and plugs, everything else was fine and didnt need replacing!

    Another year in the beast!!

Watch out, there's some fudd on this forum who gets really upset if you remind anyone that MOT testers are sometimes thieves.

  • I never had to MOT anything, thank god. I always bought new bikes, and only had one car which I only owned for a few months and never needed a MOT, thank god!

My Dad took his car to an independant tyre place and whilst having a tyre replaced the mechanic looked at the wishbones etc and told him they needed replacing. A week later he took it for it's MOT and passed with flying colours and then paid a visit to the tyre place and had words with the manager, who is a good friend, and showed him the new MOT.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Always had emissions issues, which the garage was always happy to help with.

Now I just use a work van which my bikes fit in nicley and have no worries about mots tyres, etc etc.

You should have a look see if your local council have their own MOT centre....

    Have a looksy http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel ... DeNCQ#find
Many local councils have their own MOT testing stations for council vehicles like buses or ambulances. By law these test centres (though not taxi or Crown stations) must be open to the general public, and as they only carry out tests and don't do repairs, there's no incentive for mechanics to find faults that don't exist.

You could always go back and read the old thread... Not that you have to since now you can add mak3m's example as yet more proof that some MOT testers are thieves. As if anyone else is surprised to hear it.
