Hi,
I've got a Boardman cx pro, and I've done some upgrading from the stock parts with new brakes, handlebars and an Apex derailleur and 11-32 cassette. I'm thinking of getting a new pair of wheels, preferably clinchers around the £400 mark. Any suggestions?

get some handbuilt wheels specifically for cross, by an experienced builder that knows exactly what is needed.

The Velocity A23 rim is wider than most rims and will cope with the wider CX specific clincher very well indeed. It is light, strong and builds nicely. I suggest you opt for Sapim CX Ray spokes if you can afford it for extra strength.
Hope that helps. JonathanStrada Hand Built Wheels

If you're serious about 'cross, forget clinchers - you need to run tubs or even compromise at tubeless. A decent pair of handbuilts will suffice.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

For tubeless the new Stans No Tubes Alpha rim is light and has more tyre options available now and for tubular the Velocity Major Tom was designed specifically for cyclo cross and has a wider rim to provide more surface area to stick the tyre to and less chance of tubular roll off. Look out for new tyres from Hutchinson, Schwalbe and Specialized for CX use this season.Strada Hand Built Wheels

I was going to add that fitting a wider tubeless rim like Stan's is the way to go rather than trying to get a 18mm road rim to work and all the inherent problems of sidewalls collapsing and beads 'burping'.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
