I am 6' 1.5" tall with long legs and arms. I currently ride a bike with a 58.2cm top tube. 10cm saddle set back and 11cm stem.

I notice that other people seem to have their head over the front wheel axel. Due to my long legs and arms, my head is a bit behind this. Do you think if I was to get a bike with a 56cm head tube, It would be too small?

Thanks

  • 56cm head tube would be massive ... kind of "Super Roubaix" bike for MAMILs with excrutiating back problems!!!

At your height most riders would be on a 58cm, with a few on a 56cm and a few on a 60cm frame.

If the reach feels right it is right.

I'm the same height and also have super long legs. I ride a bike with a 54cm top tube and it feels spot on. I don't know what my saddle set back is but I'm using a 100mm stem.

I used to ride a 57cm with a 110mm stem and it felt massive.

I'm not very flexible, so find the shorter reach so much more comfortable with my short upper body.

I'm exactly the same height. I have a 58cm frame with 11cm setback on saddle and a 120 stem. 11cm bar-saddle drop. BB to ccentre of saddle height 807mm. Perfect for me but may be way way out for you! ;)

Good heavens. Just goes to show. Must look extraordinary!

I'm sure it looks ridiculous but I'm happy now because I'm comfortable and not moaning about it.

I have a 815mm BB to centre of saddle, with 102mm setback and 110m stem. Are there any advantages in getting a smaller frame? I am sure I could fit a 56cm top tube with theory, I would have to have a 2cm longer stem. I guess that would mean that my bar-saddle drop would also increase?

I ride a specialised at the moment, and it has a 20cm head tube. The frame I am looking at with a 58cm top tube has an 18.5cm head tube, and the 56.2 frame has a 15cm head tube. Do you think the change would be too much?
  • I'm the same height but with short legs for my height (32" inside leg) and hence long body and also long arms.

I ride a 58cm with an 18mm setback on the seat post with a stem of 130 (but its adjustable and angled quite steeply downwards so equivalent to about a 110 with a lower stack height.) I'm off for a bike fit in a few weeks so this might change things a lot!

I'm just on 6ft - I had a 56 which was OK but got really uncomfortable over distance as I had to have the saddle high which threw my weight onto my wrists - I have a 58 now which has sorted all my problems

Why bother what other people look like on their bikes? Does your bike feel like it fits you?

(As a matter of interest - I'm 6' 1" and I ride a 58 cm bike with a 11 cm stem which I flipped because I don't like a big drop to the top of the bars. I'm a bit cramped on a 56 cm bike unless I use a longer stem.)
