Hi all :-D

I have just signed up to this here forum after perving around for a few weeks. Today i bought a Scott scale 20 (2009) i love it! Under 10kg or carbon porn (in my eyes. I am sure there is filthier porn out there lol). I cut my teeth on a 2004 carrera fury which i bought when i took up mtbing in January last year. Sadly i snapped the thing clean in half whilst doing dalby in September and have been bikeless since :-(
The sort of riding i like is hitting the odd trail centre and 30 mile big xc rides. I hope the new bike is up for a bit of rough and not to fragile :-S
Will probably be asking questions in the future about upgrading the wheels to a wider and tougher spec than standard and get some more aggressive tyres on it. But at the moment i just want to enjoy it :-D
Thanks,

Scott

"I snapped it clean in half"

Yeah yeah I was thinking until I scrolled down

That was impressive I'm glad you're still alive let alone cycling
  • I dont see any signs of blood?
    Is the frame not guaranteed?
  • The bike was bought 2nd hand and its a 2004 fury so a warranty claim would be a long shot.
Its quite lame how it happened to be honest. I had been abusing the bike beyond its comfort zone. Jumps, drops. And i was running 140mm forks when the standards were 90mm lol. I was doing 2mph, lining myself up for a downhill section when i heard a crack. the down tube snapped clean and then as the front wheel started to extend out like a transformer or something. The top tube bent then snapped. Comicly i was still hanging on. Because i didnt die it was very funny!!!

You sure a racey XC bike like the scale is what you're after if you're doing jumps and drops? :)

This has been going through my mind a lot. When i say jumps and drops they are not massive, 3 foot tops. My landings are normally clean too. I dont have the balls or skill to tackle any bigger. A lot of my riding is general xc stuff. But i have a good friend who has a boardman pro HT which has a similar style to my scale. He is commited as anyone going down hill, may not be as fast as a focused DH rig but still having a blast :-)
Saying that i am also aware that a few things on the bike need to change ie the wheels and tyres. Can anybody reccomend a good set of rims that are tougher and wider?

    Geez, nice going there.

Not sure wether a carbon XC frame is exactly what you are looking for though..

Agree with what has been said above. Surely you'd want something a little more agressive. Are you running big forks on your new bike?

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the cove stiffee and Santa cruz chameleon, or even an orange crush.

At least you weren't hurt, could have been really nasty. Warranty claims don't mean shit when running forks that have more travel than manufacturers recomendations.
  • I agree, Stiffee has a tremendous rep' & the new Crush (surely all Orange bikes should be orange..) just looks the nuts.
