I am having trouble with the cadence on my Garmin 500. The display is set to show cadence but there is no reading. Any ideas what the problem could be ?

Press and hold the white reset button on the sender unit (mounted on the chainstay) then turn the cranks, you should see a regular flashing LED to indicate pick-up. Does the speed sensor work ok? If not try a new battery.

Have you told the head unit to look for a cadence sensor and have you 'paired' it. Does it show speed if you spin the rear wheel when not moving. If you have done this and speed is shown then check the magnet position as Chrissz says. Try new battery, this usually fails on speed first. If still no joy then may be a GCS10 fault.
Read the manual for how to set it all up. It can be a bit complicated.
