Shimano BB External Cups - different?

Are they all the same? I'm guessing dimensionally they are, and the bearings will be common, the only difference being cup material and finish.

But ..................

I need some cups for a Dura Ace 7800 chainset and not sure what to buy.

Could I use DA 7900 cups? Or 6600/6700 Ultegra?

What's the difference between, say 105 and Dura Ace?

Bit of a newbie when it comes to all things Shimano! :)

    Not sure about differing qualities but I do know that they are interchangeable and as you said, different finishes.

    all Shimano road cups are interchangeable.

    The MTB ones are different though (slightly wider).

    They're all pretty similar in performance I suspect. I've certainly not noticed any differences. The DA ones are a bit lighter though I think...

    If you want something better then look at Hope, Enduro, Acros etc.
