I'm looking for a bike bag predominantly for storing my bike indoors but with the option of travelling with it if the mood takes me.

I've found this one at CRC for £59.95 that seems to fit the bill but wanted to check if there are any better deals around at the moment.

  • Thanks for the really pointless spam cooldad. How do you think I found the one I linked to in the first place?

Having never bought one of these bags before I was wondering if people in the know had any opinions or knew of a better one before I forked out my hard earned cash.

I purchased a Dakine Bike Bag last summer and took my Zesty to the Alps by train. All in all, it's a great bag with the usual excellent Dakine quality. It's sturdy and has semi-rigid sides. It rolls well and has handles on most sides so you can lift it. I was able to fit my medium-size all-mountain bike into the case by just removing the handlebars from the steerer tube and tying them onto the top tube. With a couple of extra bits of cardboard, I would trust my bike to airline baggage handlers. My only issues are the price (it's expensive), weight (10kg - the weight of the bag and the bike may mean extra fees at the airport) and availability (it was out of stock at CRC for months).

If you do get a CRC bike bag and are flying with Easyjet make sure you remove the shoulder straps at the check in otherwise the baggage handlers will rip them off.

This happened to two out of three of our CRC bags on a recent Easyjet flight back from Tenerife.

They're decent bags they just won't stand up to the abuse Easyjet handlers dish out.

So if you do fly with Easyjet you need to factor in the price of a bike bag every time you fly.

Did I mention this happened on an Easyjet flight.
  • +1 for removing the straps on the CRC bags.

didn't do mine and bag was ruined after one use - material on the sides isn't tough enough

Flew with my bike to the Alps with the CRC one with no problems. Will be using it again in the summer when I go Whistler. :D
  • Thanks all.

Since I won't be flying easyjet anytime soon & will certainly take off the shoulder strap if I do, it looks like I found the right choice.

That dakine one does look nice though if a little heavy on the wallet ;)
