Wondering what the difference is between some of the permisson lenses and the yellow ones and also the red.
What's the general opinion to our grey days in the UK and the preferred lense colour, I'm guessing the yellow ones to brighten up the day?

I use persimmon lenses most in winter

I like the yellow lenses for increasing the contrast on grey days. Rose colour are quite good, too.Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0

I've got the Persimmon ones. From the web site in the previous entry it looks like they block a bit more sun than the yellow lenses.
makes them more useful if there is a bit of winter sun.0 -
I've been using G30's on and off road for the last couple of years. Not too dark, so you can see when you suddenly go barrelling off into the trees, but definitely take the edge of the harshness when you're up high and it's bright.
Really nice colour rendition too - everything looks really lush, even in the middle of winter. Can be quite a nasty shock when I take them off.0 -

I emailed Cyclestore recently with a similar question. Was inquiring whether the Persimmon or Yellow lens would be best suited for dull days and MTBing. Guy at CS recommended the Yellow ones due to the fact that if you are using the Persimmon and the days takes a turn for the worst your visibility will be too low, whereas the Yellow would let enough light through even on duller days.
Then again if your anticipating a bit of sporadic sunshine on a not too dull day the Persimmon might suit better. I went for the yellow in the end so awaiting the postie now so I can give em a go!!!0 -
Let me know how you get on eh skerryman? cheers0
-
Will do, hoping to have them in time for the weekend but unless they arrive in the morning I'm shit out of luck. Will let you know the verdict once I try em on the bike. Not expecting sunshine anytime soon so should be plenty of opportunity0

Yellow are great - really make dull days look sunny - big psychological boost.0

I have the red jawbones with the transition lenses.
No point just wanted to show off cos they are great+++++++++++++++++++++

Oakley do so many lens colours it's difficult to know what's going to be best for our ever-changing climate over here.
The Fire iridium look great as do the Positive Red Iridium, or the Ice Iridium but are they any good for our inclement weather? Or just for the sunniest places I wonder.0 -

thats what i found... there is almost too much choice.
I have black iridium polarised square wires that i use for sailing & driving, and i just got a new set of VR50 Transitions that go from 50% transmissivity to 10%, depending on how bright it is... it seems like a good comprimise for bike riding.0 -
I wonder is there any good reason why you can't buy the photochromic lens on their own (least not for the Radars as far as I know)0

No problem at all, just buy lots of pairs!0 -
For some reason I've gone off the Oakley "increased contrast" lenses these days and prefer neutral tints. I like the jade iridium and positive red iridium for a wide range of conditions, dark enough for bright sun but not so dark that you can't wear them in moderately overcast conditions.
For really dull days or after sunset I'd just go for clear. I'm interested in the new "clear black iridium" transition lens. Unlike the other transition lenses it goes completely clear if the light levels are very low. However I read somewhere that although it goes pretty dark-looking in strong light, it doesn't actually filter out enough light. Has anyone tried these?0 -
I use the G26 (green) lens and find them good for the duller days and they also work well on brighter ones also by removing the glare. No issues driving or doing other activities with them. For cycling glasses, they look cool as well!! 8)
Heres a review of them http://www.tririg.com/articles.php?id=1022_Oakley_lenses0 -
I love the redder lenses - they filter out the blue end of the spectrum and are brilliant in wet & misty conditions where a lot of the reflected light is blue (especially for driving as they also enhance the reds of tail and brake lights) .
But, I agree - too much choice.
BTW - pick up some great bargain Oakley seconds here

Extra 25% off which means that a pair of LiveStrong Jawbones will cost you only £75-ish - if only they fitted/suited me
I bought half-jacket arrays yesterday with grey / G20 / persimmon lens (3 sets of lenses) for £75 vs an RRP of £180ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
Just got these in the mail from Eyewearoutlet. Still waiting on Yellow lenses so probably won't get to use them until they arrive next week, unless some really unexpected sunshine appears. True Blue frame with Blue Iridium lenses.
Kinda sickened I missed out on the extra 25% off though. Still way cheaper than other prices I seen online!!0 -
Mine turned up this evening along with some Whiskers for my son - if they're seconds, I have no clue why. Great service and great pricesROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

I assume the answer is yes, but can you fit Half Jacket XLJ lenses into a standard Half Jacket frame? Tempted by a factory second on the offer on that Eyewearoutlet site.0

Not sure about the fitting the lenses into the frame part, but if you want to get some factory seconds off that site you'd want to do it today. They're taking them off the site this weekend (so the site says anyway). Also if you getting them use the last chance discount code mentioned earlier in this thread to get an extra 25% off0 -
hmm can't see any more blue frames on there, how long did you get yours skerryman?0
-
I ordered mine on Monday or Tuesday. Got them from the custom factory seconds section. Just checked it out now and there's only three pairs left in that section, none of them are Radars, can't see any Radars in the men's factory seconds section either. Either they took them all down or they sold out fast once they announced it was ending this weekend. There was a good few pairs of Radars in both sections the last time I looked.0

Cheers, took a punt anyway. £41 for a new pair of Oakleys posted is phenomenal.
If the XLJ's dont fit, I'll offload them on eBay (as I plan to do with the standard Half Jacket lenses anyway).
Thanks again for the heads up0 -

No bother, missed out on the extra 25% myself but still got the Radars at a good price so not really miffed, enjoy!!0 -
You can interchange flak jacket/flak jacket XLJ lenses into the same frame, or at least you could when I bought mine around three years ago as that was how I got the lens/frame combo I wanted in instore.0
-
I checked elsewhere and you can indeed interchange standard & XLJ lenses on Half-Jackets. Obviously not got them in my possession yet but if anybody out there is in the market for a set of standard Half-Jacket lenses in Black Iridium, then please let me know and we can perhaps discuss doing a deal. It will save me the hassle of advertising them separately on here &/or sticking them on eBay.0
