Have I been sold the wrong derailleur?

I need a Shimano 2300 front triple derailleur to replace my bent one. ( All chainset is 8 speed 2300) At first Evans sold me a braze-on version. Upon returning it and being informed they dont stock a clamp on version, the man sold me a 105 version and assured me it would be fine and better quality. As these are made for 10 speed chainsets is he telling me the truth?

As long as it's for a triple it will be fine.

105 is for 10sp. The cage is narrower than 8sp so you may get chain rub or even set up problems. I would get the correct one is you can. Or get the braze-on one and one of these.
