If using carbon wheels for racing then tubs still make sense, likewise for cyclo-cross - for everything else the difference is more marginal and the convenience of clinchers takes over. Tubeless remains somewhere inbetween - the USP being improved comfort and grip rather than absolute performance. There's little to beat the feel and sound of a 'roaring' tub on smooth tarmac.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • If you have to ask the question then it's tyres for you. Tubs are really for racing only unless you know what you're doing with them.

+1 tubs are great but not worth it unless racing. You need to carry whole tyres around as spares. Probably 2 of them. Why would you want to do that? When you puncture, a repair will cost you £15 by someone else, or you'll need to learn to fix them yourself which is not easy or fun or quick. And when it's fixed it'll never be as good again anyway. And they're £20-50 each for anything good.

    I'll stop myself there :x

I agree here...If you don't know what you're gaining, or what the limitations of what you're "upgrading" from, then why buy?

Now, I will admit, I've done this before with other hobbies, but with the fact that cycling parts can be pricey, I don't think I'll be partaking in such activities any time soon :P
