Hi all.

I have a powertap sl+ that I use a garmin 705 with, i sold the yellow head unit as i thought it would not be needed.

However I wish to perform a "stomp test" to check its calibration which can not be done on a garmin. Is there any one out there willing to lend me theres. I could collect and get it back to you on the same day.

Cheers, Paul

P.S a stomp test does not require stamping on your head unit

    in Bristol by the way.
  • The 705 has a calibrate function - go to settings, accessories, Ant+ I think and it;'s there. Most recent firmware upgrade I think added this.

Errrmm... That's not a calibration. That just confirms communication between device and head and that the device is zero'd, the number that comes up is the device ID...
As the OP states, he needs an LYC to do proper calibration.

  • Sorry - it states calibration so I assumed that it meant calibration!

Well, the PowerTap is not user calibratable at all, you can check the accuracy of the powertap with a LYC (or a USB Ant Stick and a computer) but all you can do if it's out of calibration is send it back.

Checking it is possibly worthwhile if you're unsure about the values for sure.

    Well spotted Jim... My bad.

You can download a Virtual machine which is ready to go to give you Quarqd on windows without much problem.

With the latest Edge 500 firmware, you can do a check by hanging a weight on the pedal to check it's calibration. There is a page on cyclepowermeters.com that tells you how to do it. Not sure if you can do it with an edge 705 though.

EDIT: Only do-able on Edge 500 and 800.

I did notice that little 'Torque' check box on the calibration page of my new Garmin 500.
I'll try that when I get home, Steve...
