SRAM Force rear derailleur
Hi,
Need some help. I have recently received my Scott CR1 from Epic Cycles. Its a lovely bike.
I am new to SRAM and have been having a few issues.
The main one is that the indexing on the rear is a bit flaky.
:Changing down through the gears Big -> small cogs is pretty accurate.
: Changing up through the gears is a bit hit and miss. It often jumps two gears or does not change at all and just makes a noise. I have tried adjusting the cable tension both ways but cannot find a balance that gives accurate changes.
I gather there may be a technique issue with changing gears? It seems you can change too far or not enough with the double tap??
The bike has been out on the road once for about 10 miles and has been on the turbo once. It has not been crashed or had any other damage.
I am getting a bit frustrated and am beginning to wonder why i didn't stick with Shimano which is smooth as anything on my other bike.
Any body got any ideas?
Thanks
Colin

No, not really, it should be dead easy/foolproof.
You can change up 2 gears with one movement.
But something is seriously wrong. Maybe post a picture of rear derailleur.
Possibly whoever set it up has routed the cable wrongly ( at the point just before it is clamped ).

Sorry tried posting pictures and never succeeded!
I agree that it is probably going to end up in a LBS. Just a bit peeved that the bike isn't perfect!
Epic have a fantastic reputation but i live miles away!!0 -
Ok..

Have a look at this picture. The important thing is that the cable bends ABOVE the fixing bolt.
Does your cable do that?0 -
If the LBS find a fault, then EPIC should resolve the repair - refund you or offer to pay to return and resolve it.
If it is just a twek, or indexing, maybe not. I'd still be ringing EPIC to complain it wasn't set up right. You may get some cash off a product?!0 -
Yes it does do what is in the picture.
I think its set up correctly having downloaded the SRAM diagrams.
When shifting up to the bigger gears it either moves too far or not far enough. Seems to be a bit hit and miss.
I am definitely going to ring Epic again tomorrow but its really difficult to describe things over the phone.
The bike cost a fortune ....... !!!0 -
Just a quick update.....
Had a good chat with Epic. Looked like i was going to have to get down to the LBS.
Did some youtube searching on rear derailleur indexing and decided just to give it a go. I ended up increasing the cable tension quite a bit then fiddled on the turbo and seemed to have cracked it.
The shifting is now crisp and accurate. Oh and my technique needed some work too. You can change down more than one gear if you want or are not careful!
Thanks for your all your help!
I love my bike now0
