Can anyone tell me how to tighten the Look Keo Max pedals? Unlike the SPD SL pedals there inst the flat section which you would usually use a pedal wrench to tighten them up it's just a smooth circular barrell.

I am sure there is a technique, but i just don't know what it is.

any help appreciated.

cheers

they have an allen key fitting on the middle of the pedal axle.
I think its an 8mm key thats needed.

Hurricane be sure to put some grease on your threads before fitting. And remove regulary. Lbshops make easy money removing pedals. If you get them stuck it can mean the bottom bracket out and your cranks in the vice to get purchase to remove the pedals.

    I use park tool grease
  • Don't do them up too tight - simple.

    Poor design in my opinion.

Wouldnt hurt to put flats on so you can use a pedal spanner, rather than using an allen key. I have caught my knuckles on the chainring a few times swapping look pedals, easier to keep your hands clear and get more leverage with a proper pedal spanner.

Don't use an allen key to remove them, get a socket set with the right size hex bit. Much easier and safer.

Ok to install using an allen key; that way you're unlikely to overtighten them

    Yup.

The absence of flats means Look can achieve a lower Q factor. Perhaps they somehow thing that lower Q factor is better. This is one reason why is have always use Time pedals.

Yet they then offer 2mm washers to increase the Q factor...
