Scott Hangover 28 Rucksack

Hi all - I'm a newbie here so please bear with me if I'm posting in the wrong place.
I've just had a Scott Hangover 28 rucksack delivered and I'm confused. There's a detachable helmet holder which I understand. What I don't get is the pouch at the bottom of this helmet cover which unzips to reveal two more straps. Where do they go? There are clips on the underside of the bag but attaching the straps to these would only serve to stretch the pouch wide open.
Also, there's a slot on each side at the top of the helmet cover, presumably for feeding straps through. Does anyone know which straps - and why?
Any help much appreciated.
