does anyone know whether the BB should be faced on these? I hand tightened the cups and it all seems pretty inline.

yeah i got a seat clamp though had to buy seperately. There is a specific nanolight one on the site but a correctly sized alternative should suit.

well ive not had the BB faced and have torqued it up (well tightened it tight as don't have a torque wrench for a BB torque value). I'll report back if there's any problems but i think it will be okay.

just have to get the carbon steerer cut now...i dont think I'll be risking that one though!

I didn't build a nano, but have built an SL. The SL did not require the BB faced, I would expect any decent modern frame to be ready for use. I think it was more an issue with frames designed for older inboard BBs. As for cutting the steerer, be absolutely sure where you want to cut it (safer to leave a spacer above the stem too unless you are totally sure). I found securely fixing an old metal steerer spacer to give a cutting edge very useful, you may have to put a couple of layers of masking tape under the spacer to make it fit snugly and square, You really don't want to have to square the end after you have cut it. Use a fine toothed hacksaw, and cut round the steerer a little at a time, take care to cut using the spacer as an edge, and keep the blade square, again using the spacer as a guide, Once you've done it, you'll wonder what all the fuss was about .... if you don't feel confident, don't cut it !
.. who said that, internet forum people ?
  • They leave the factory already faced. And modern carbon frames are not like metal frames where the joining of tubes can lead to the bb shell being pushed out of line. Your typically carbon frame is not going to need much in the way of facing.
