Specialized xc - Fox Talas RL Question

Hi,
I have a specialized xc '09 large frame.
Currently have RockShox Tora 302 SL with 120mm travel.
I want to upgrade my forks, I've seen a pair of Fox Talas RL's.
They have adjustable travel up to 140mm.
Would they be alright on my bike if i kept them in the 120 setting?
Also does anyone happen to know how much steerer tube i need for my large frame?
Is it just the measurement from top of fork to top of stem?
Could anyone provide advice please?
