Hi,

I'm building up my new bike with a SRAM XX 2x10 chainset and front mech.

Could I use my existing XT 9 speed triple shifter with this combo?

you could i think, but if youre going with a xx cahinset and mech, surely it'd be worth going for full xx, as the shifter makes difference than the mech

Actually it was claimed not to work, different cable pull, but actually does. Have to agree with the above though, if you're going XX get the shifters too.

Well is isn't quite - which is why I asked!

Long and short of your replies is that it will work but not be perfect, so........

Is the ring spacing the same for SRAM and Shimano?
i.e. Could I run new x2 XTR shifters with the XX front mech and cranks?
(Would like to run XT/XTR at the back and matching shifters would be nice!)

mine is a bit more complex:

    1) I have a direct mount (specialized stumpjumper) deraileur, which cannot just be shifted up or down the seat tube. I have seen the XX ones have different DMR mechs for 39/26 and 42/26 which makes me think this is very difficult, or is it marketing? It also scuppers my idea of buying two spider sets: 39/26 for winter/marathon and 42/28 for summer/blasting (would even have a 45/30 which they seem to have removed from sale post launch???)

    2) I was looking, Like I am sure many are, at a staged approach to upgrading to 2x10 by either going 2x9 first (using 40/42 in middle and a 26/27 on innner ring) or getting a 2x10 crank now, but not throwing away a few hundred quid in shifters and a mechs to the parts bin

Anyone? can I use or adapt my XTR front DMR mech to do this?

Another point I believe not covered in FAQ, if I got 2x10 front XX, and changed the front mech due to DMR issues, would I need to change the front 9sp shifter as well?
