hi.
i'm completely new to proper road biking, alhough i get through about 100 miles a week on my 'fast' commuter and mountain bike.
i am looking to get a caad10 105 and starting to do rather more leisure-time road mles.
the bike appears to review very well, so i shouldn't be disappointed, but i wonder how it would compare to, say, a carbon boardman? any views??
also, is there a maximum rider weight for road frames? i'm around 75kg. i read something on another forum suggesting a 70kg ideal weight limit for such lightweight frames, but can find no substantiation for this...
any advice would be gratefully received,
thanks

If that were true half of us on here would have to spend a fortune on new frames every six months.

good, thanks. it sounds like the weight limit thing is a red herring.

would still value any comparison of, or individual experience of the caad10 and boardman carbon pro.

    thanks

it's been discussed many times here on the forum, carbon doesn't mean better, the CAAD 10 easily competes with a high end carbon frame, and thus eats the boardman for breakfast
  • Boardman Carbon or Cannondale CAAD there is no comparison, buy the Cannondale everytime.

Your weight will not be an issue, 75kg is a good normal weight. Look at the amount of 10 year old CAAD 3/4 bikes that pop up on Ebay, these bikes last very well.

One thing which you might want to think about is geometry. The CAAD range are racy in terms of frame geometry, especially for a first road bike you may have problems in terms of flexibility and handling. The Synapse range is Cannonales sportive range, and you may find these more comfortable.

Id suggest you ride both the CAAD and Synapse and see which you find fits you best.

Agreed, although I think the 8 is a bit more upright than the 9 an 10. Personally I have a CAAD5 and love it :-) As well as wheels Mavic supply emergency bikes for any Tour de France riders whose own steeds have been in an accident, they use CAAD9s (10s this year maybe?). That says it all really.

If you're unfamiliar with road bikes the stem position is worth mentioning. You can have the stem flipped up to start with until you're used to the riding position. Then if you want to get a bit lower down you can invert the stem to lower the handlebars.

The boardmans are good bikes if youve never ridden anything else.

The CAAD10 would be my choice

Hey the Boardman is a good bike, it's just the Brand that's wrong. I instantly judge a Boardman rider to be a certain type of guy, sometimes wrongly. The only weak point in the package tends to be the wheels, which are both heavy and fragile, a rare combination

Having said that I wouldn't be seen dead on one and would buy the 'dale over anything else for the money. Go visit a good LBS and get set up so you're comfortable :)

Halfords should not be selling anything bigger that a Postman Pat bike
