ONDA forks

Hi,

I recently came across a seller on ebay with a couple of what appear to be Pinarello Onda forks for sale. I've read that some Pinarello forks are built just for Pinarellos (I think the Dogma?). Anyway, I wondered if these would work with my frame? It's a modern aluminium job with the 1/18th style headset.

The first ones with the 3k weave will probably be slightly more comfortable, while the second set with the 12k weave will feel a bit stiffer.

If those are un-stickered OE forks, they will be designed for a semi-integrated headset, so the crown race won't be flush with the crown. You can see on this fork that it has a wider part on top of the crown.

The second fork however, looks like it has a normal steerer.

  • So, I'm better off going for the second option? I'm not sure I understand about the crown race being flush with the crown. If I got a picture of my bike's headset, would you be able to tell if the first option would work with the bike?

An integrated fork basically has a built in crown race (silver bit on this fork's steerer)

As far as I know, you can fit one, but there will be a gap between the bottom of the headset, and the fork crown.

Unless your existing frame has some curved tubes either of these forks will look terrible IMO. Not trying to be nasty at all but if your frame has not curved tubes then you would be better with something like those Token forks shown above.

^ err no - in two posts you've managed to make 2 inaccurate statements!

An integrated fork is designed for use with a frame with integrated headset - basically the headtube is oversize to accommodate the bearings and the fork crown is flared to match - there will be a nominal gap, otherwise it won't turn! Integrated crown races are the exception - most forks come without. You can use an integrated fork with a regular frame no problem.

As for the difference between 3k and 12k weave - it's purely a cosmetic finish - the underlying fork is made from the same material and doesn't relate to the stiffness of the fork.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Thats where I got the differences in the carbon from.

For the intergrated thing, I was considering buying a real Onda fork for my Trek when my old fork broke, and it was designed for an integrated headset, but the guy had fitted a crown race for a normal headset. it left a gap obviously, but seemed to work, like this.

  • There's already a gap in mine- and that's with the stock fork.

This is my bike. It does have a curved top tube...
