Has anyone had any experience with both the Racing Speed and the XLR on paper the difference seems to be about 40 grams or so? Is there a need to spend the extra £600? Alternative,y how do they compare to the Campag Bora's?

Any advice most welcome!

Thanks

Fulcrum carbons and Boras are near identical - just aesthetics / G3 spoke pattern on Boras - hubs & rims are very similar as they come from same factory.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • I think the cost difference between the regular Racing Speed and the XLR versions is more about the ceramic bearings in the hubs than weight saving, although they do have carbon bodied hubs I think. For 600 quid? Seems a lot extra. Bora do 2 versions, same thing, ceramic bearings in the Ultra 2 etc. The rims are identical in both versions.

Thanks I think either the Bora ones or the Racing speed..... no need for the extra £600 for a set of bearings and some carbon hubs.

Now just a decision of spoke pattern....

Ceramic bearings are simply not needed in a hub, and they don't add that much to the cost of the wheels either..
  • Get the vanilla Racing Speeds and put CeramicSpeed bearings in if you need them. I've got Bora 2s and love them but regret not being able to run them on my Shimano bike. My ideal combination would be the BU2 carbon hubs with Fulcrum spoking (ie no G3 on the rear).

If you want a hardly used set of Bora Ultra 2s, hit me up as mine aren't getting enough use which is plain wrong for such gorgeous wheels. I like the sturdiness of the Dura Ace C50s on my Shimano bike but would take Racing Speed/Bora in their place any day.

Boras on Shimano? Easy, swap the freehub body - about £60

  • Um I know how to do it, it's just wrong! :-)
