Have some money for a new bike. I was thinking of this:
http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.p ... 1b4s2p2290
and i have a pair of Elixir 5 brakes to put on it.
I know ot os a 2009 model but I love the XTC models.
I also fancied this:
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/sco ... e-ec025361.
They are both a racy set up which suits me fine and both weight roughly the same.
I like the Scott as i have a Pro racing from 2004 which is one of my favourite hardtails I have owned
With regards to the 10 speed set up, is this likely to wear quicker than the 9 speed one.
Do I spend the money on the Scott and be a snob or stick with the XTC.
Any suggestions

The difference in price between the 2 bikes you've shown is pretty considerable! If you have the money to spend on the Scott (£1400+ on evans for a 2011 scale 40), then i'd be tempted to look for something a bit fancier to compare it with. On Pauls Cycles, for example, you could get a 2010 XTC Alliance with Fox forks, with the FIT cartridge, along with an XT/SLX groupset for example. However, i guess the scale has the adventage of being slightly more 'future proof' given that its running 10 speed already.
as for 10 speed wearing out faster, i've not seen any comment on this anywhere. Its probably not something i'd worry about.0
