Anyone have any experience of part ex'ing a bike for an upgrade?? or is it worth trying to sell private??

Have an Anthem x3 2010, and love it. I bought it as i enjoyed the xc/trail kind of riding but have been bitten by the more tricky downhill type trails and am thinking of getting something with a little more travel...

any thoughts or experiences would be great

  • Generally you'll get a lot more for private sale, part-ex the shop has to be able to make a profit, and put it through their workshop etc. Plus second hand top end bikes generally don't go from shops!

    It is worth asking though.

I part-exed my 2004 Enduro expert in 2008.I got £600.The bike cost £1800 new and needed a good service but over all I thought £600 was reasonable for a 4 year old bike and it saved me the hassle of selling/splitting it.
    I'd definitely do it again.

Depends on the shop and if you can be ar$ed sellling it...though ebay might be worth a punt with crimbo coming up and people paying over the odds...
