Hi chaps was just wondering if anyone knew of any shops online or otherwise that actually had a KS i7 seatpost in stock, I've obviously done all the obvious google searches and everybody that comes up seems to be sold out. The importers don't have anymore stock till the end of December so Wiggle etc won't be getting anymore until then and the missis is getting me a drop post for Christmas so I don't want to wait till the new year if I can help it. I considered a Gravity Dropper but it seems a bit like something someone made in their lunch break compared to the i7. Any help would be appreciated or other suggestions? It has to be 27.2 and I want a min 4 inch drop
cheers

Gravity droppers look ghastly but they work really well.

If I was getting an adjustable post I would probably get a GD
  • ah I've been re-homed. I wondered where this had gone! Thanks Peter. Have you used a GD then? I suppose although there seems to be a lot more thought gone into the i7 there is probably less to go wrong with the GD. I was a bit worried too that the lack of damping would cause it to wear and start rattling or something. I'm not normally so indecisive about my bikes but I never thought I'd see the day I was buying one of these seatposts or spending this kind of money on one! I'm a bit worried I may start weighing stuff or buying Ti brake lever bolts or something. Where will buying slightly indulgent and possibly unnecessary bits end??

Love my GD Turbo. I just recently got a KS i900 for the Hemlock and so far it's not worked properly, to be fair I have a made that has 2 and they're now both reasonably reliable so I reckon mine will be too once we get past the teething troubles. (his teething troubles involved at least one complete replacement post and 2 rebuilds) The i7 is a totally different post but their track record isn't great.

I have used Northwind's on his Soul and I could really see what a difference it would make, especially on muddy rides when the seatclamp tends to get gunked up with sh!t and becomes incredibly hard to use.

Not that that was the only benefits I saw, it was so easy to get used to, took me 2 trys to get it right, and it would be great on those trails that have a slight uphill in the middle of a descent (like the black at Glentress) or for places like Ae where it has no set up and downhill and it would definitely come into its own on natural trails where there is no knowing which way the trail is going to go.

I'd strongly suggest gettng one with a remote as well. I thought I'd save a bit of cash and avoid the extra cable / shifter on the bars and bought a Joplin with the under-seat lever... a great bit of kit in the short time I had it, but would have been so much more usable with a bar-mounted remote...
Dropping the saddle on a bit of a singletrack you don't know using the lever under the saddle is a lot harder than you think!
  • Leisure Lakes have the i7 in stock although note i have already returned my one after it started spewing out oil on its second outing so reliability so far aint looking to good, stick with a GD.
  • Thanks for all the replies guys-Gravity Dropper it is then.

Liftman I called LL a couple of days ago but they said they were out of stock despite it saying in stock on the website. Anyway not to worry GD from wiggle or CC coming up.

Do I take it that the 350/400/mm etc they state in the spec is the total length of the bottom bit of the post (the non extendable bit)? If so how much of that do you reckon needs to be in the seat tube-just trying to figure which length to get.
If I got the longest one could I cut it down if it was too long or does all the mech inside take up the entire bottom tube?
  • The 350/400 is the total length of the bottom section, you cant cut it down.
  • nice one thanks for that, the mrs will be ordering it tomorrow.
Enjoy your weekends everyone, I'm off to investigate the new link between Lee and Crag quarry cos there is still snow up here in the lakes
  • My i7 lasted 6 weeks before it spewed it's guts and wouldn't drop fully and started to twist freely and the bearings collapsed and damaged the inner shaft............it's gone back for a repair or two! Got it from Leisure Lakes, they said they send a lot back and they always seem a lot more reliable once they've been rebuilt - fingers crossed!
  • definitely glad I asked the question on here now, I was so close to getting an i7. Glad I'm not now!
  • Just a quick update to thank everyone for the advice. Got my Gravity Dropper at Christmas and I am definitely hooked, it does exactly what its supposed to, no wobbling or weirdness.
    Thanks again for the advice
