Are all campagnolo hubs the same?
I am on the lookout for a spare rear wheel for my wilier escape and have been offered a wheel with a campagnolo hub but no cassette. Can you use any campag hub with any cassette or are there differences?

9/10/11 speed cassettes will all fit the same hub. Previous to that, it was a different spline pattern.

You can only use Campagnolo pattern cassettes with them, no Shimano/SRAM.
  • Any idea how I know if it is a 9/10/11 speed cassette hub?

9/10/11 speed freehub bodies look like this:

The stepped spline at the top of the pic is the giveaway.

  • But the splines on the one on 2alexcoo post look different to the ones in my picture?

Looks like it may be an older 9 speed hub, according to this.

It should still be compatible with 10 speed though - I have two bikes with 9 speed hubs (1999/2000 ish), one running 10 speed, the other 11.

If it isn't that pattern per the photo it will be an 8 speed. You may be able to change the freehub body, seek advice from Mercian, they are experts, Chain reaction and Ribble won't have any idea. Mercian are a bit dearer to buy from, but it is only fair to buy from them if they provide advice.

  • Thanks 2alexcoo. That info is just what I needed, as you say it looks like an older 9 speed hub. Much appreciated.

Hub is new pattern so will accept 9/10/11 - 8 speed had shallower splines and doesn't have the step
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
