Front mech shifting problem
Hi all,
Been trying to sort out the wifes bike today to no avail. She has a Spesh Dolce running Shimano 2300 gearing. I know its not the best gear but it should surely work!!
It has a triple on the front and I can get it shifting nicely going from inner to middle and middle to outer but its a different story coming back the other way. From the outer ring it wont shift to the middle one. It just clicks and grinds until you push the shifter again and it jumps straight to the inner ring.
I have a fair idea so have adjusted the front mech height and angle and set the low and high limit screws. Is there anything else that could be causing this, its driving me mad!!!

cable tension could be wrong
check the instructions, shimano's are here...
http://techdocs.shimano.com
go to road->2300 then choose the file that starts si for the model of fd, probably this one...

another possibility is that the mech and/or cable are gundged up, clean+lub the fd, if the cable is sticiking in the outer sleeve you may be able to flush the outer clean with solvent, otherwise replace cable+outermy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
For a dodgy downshift it's either due to 'sticky' cables or gunked-up mech - previous poster needs to do 'gears 101'!
Give everything a clean e.g. toothbrush including under the BB to remove any muck and a thorough dose of WD40/GT85 - it necessary, release the cable clamp and work the mech back and forth by hand to free it up. Check condition of cable to make sure it's not frayed - replace if necessary. Check out www.parktool.com on setting it up correctly.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0 -
