Hello All

Am looking to get a new bike and wanted to get some advice before I start spending my hard earned dosh.

Looking to spend between £1500-£1800 on a road bike. I don't want a racer though, rather something I can do longish distances in without discomfort. Two things are making it a bit tricky, one is that I suffer from a bad back, so don't want too 'aero' a position as I am worried about my back if the position is too stretched out. The other is that I'm not the tallest (at about 5'5) so have to make sure that frame fits.

Should I go for a custom frame, or could I get something off the peg and then do adjustments with stem positions, spacers etc to get a comfy fit?

Also should if I need to get a bike fit, can someone recommend somewhere in London or surrounding area?

Thanks in advance

Cyclefit are the ubiquitous firm in London but Bespoke Cycles may help. If you can get to Derby, Cadence Sport is supposed to be excellent.Napoleon D has used him and there is a review on the Bianchista site. May be someone else in London. You may not need a custom frame, just one in your size. Cylefit have some nice bikes on sale at the moment but others on here may suggest other vendors

You could look at the Van Nicolas Mistral or Euros? The reason i suggest this is two fold. Firstly i wanted a bike that fitted as you describe in your post and the Van Nicolas delivers supreme comfort IMO. Also VN dealers will ensure you are properly fitted and this is usually free of charge. If you but from Fat Birds you can also build both bikes to your specification. Worth a look if nothing else.

If you live in the West Midlands/Worcestershire area go and have a chat with Epic Cycles, they'll sort you out with the right bike and an excellent service including fitting.

If you live in the south west try Bike-Science, my boss went there for a fit on his spesh allez and subsequently his PX and he had nothing but good things to say about them.
