They are protesting about fees again. I just watched about 3k of them running down Fleet Street towards St. Paul's with about 40 police vans and a helicopter over-head. Bizarre sight. I presume they are trying to stay warm and avoid 'kettling'. Good on 'em.

Yes, the Police's Heavy Mob were blocking most of the Horseguards cycle lane while they all got suited up in their riot gear.

That's what I read. The police appeared to be doing some 'pre-emptive' 'kettling' and the protest has now scattered on ad-hoc routes all over the centre. Not ideal.

Edit: A (peaceful looking) splinter just past my office on cornhill, followed by running police and big vans. About 100-200 or so protesters, and about 30 officers?

Elsewhere in the UK it seems quite good natured ,with a few uni occupations (Cambridge senate house occupied by a load of 6th formers apparantly)

Who thinks that a load of sixth formers might be able to out run burly middle-aged men in full riot gear?

Well, at least they'll keep warm out there.

The group I mentioned before have stopped on Cornhill and are making a bit of noise. They're just behind the building next to ours so I can't quite see. Doesn't seem to be any problems...

Seems there are lots of groups leading the police on a merry dance around town - 300 or so just went down Holborn.

    Great protest tactics.

On a day like this though, if I was a police officer I'd be pissed!

Pissed enough to want to truncheon someone upside the head....

Nah, I'd rather be running around keeping warm than standing still doing a bit of kettling.

Just having to go outside at all would be enough for me to go all Dark Lord of Sith on some student.

Which is why I like their tactics.

No, what it actually was was a load of protesters who all dressed up as police officers, infiltrated police lines and then pushed someone over. Oh wait, that was on of the (many) initial excuses last time wasn't it?
