Acera FD Capacity

I am replacing the chainset on my mountain bike from an FSA to a Deore but the biggest ring is 44T whereas it was 42T on the FSA. Shimano Tech Docs say the maximum an Acera derailleur can cope with is a 20T gap between biggest and smallest rings. Do you think it will be ok with 44T outer ring instead, and so a 22T gap or do I need to get a Deore FD as well?

it will work. might just be a bit of a pain to set up.
just do it."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

You might need to set the guide on an angle to amplify the mech range. Given you can get an SLX for 18 quid, I wouldn't waste too much time faffing around.0
