Road race - poor fit at the back

Just fitted a pair of crud road race guards to my road bike - the rear guard looks a bit funny? The tail piece does not follow the profile of the wheel and sticks out at the back. I cant adjust it any further without it binding on the wheel - Can it be 'remoulded'? Thanks

It is not meant to. It stands clear to give better protection to those behind more like a mudflap.
