Evening,

I'm looking at buying oakley Jawbones. They come with various lenses and various prices, can anyone recommend which lenses to go for? Stick with the standard set and then upgrade when necessary?

regards

The standard black irridium and amber lenses that come with the jawbones are fine for most conditions. Blue irridium is great for very bright days too.

I bought the black jawbones with black iridium and yellow lenses then bought G20 lenses for mid light.

check out www.eyewearoutlet.co.uk - they do official factory seconds for half price but if you contact them before you order they can normally pick out a perfect pair for you.

I have bought jawbones and radars from them both for £85.....bargain!!!

For northern European conditions go for something with a medium-ish level of light transmission, around 15 - 18%, and also an amber, yellow or transition lens for low light. The black iridium lens (10%) that comes as standard on a few of the jawbones is a bit too dark unless you are nearer the equator, it won't give you any advantage over a slightly lighter lens and you will be struggling to see properly when you are in heavy shade.

The vr28 blue iridium, jade iridium, fire iridium and +ve red iridium polarised are all around 15-18% light transmission and available on standard jawbones. Or go custom from the Oakley website.

These are great for the winter. I've bought some and been very pleased. They provide some sun protection but mainly lighten up a grey day.

  • Although I have the Flak jackets I use transitions in all conditions except dull mornings or evenings where I use clear. The transitions go down to 9%.
