Its up to decathlon where & how they do there business - but to close the store at Merry Hill - and re locate it just of the heavily congested M6 makes no sense to me. Who is going to sit in masses of traffic to visit this store ?

Madness - a few people outside the store today - just shrugged there shoulders - and headed to Halfords/JJB / Hawk Cycles - bizarre decision

The Merry hill store closed its doors on the 1st November.
  • I used to use it for a inner tube if I'm desperate after the LBS was closed. I think they probably moved due to the cost of renting the building. Though the merry hill location is very useful for me. A shame really.

the new store is supposedly much bigger - and the reported cost to get the store up and running is £15m - can't see it working to be honest. - real shame Ive brought a number of bikes for me and my lads from that store - and was there to buy another today. Can't get decathlon mail order in my area either - and I certainly ain't trotting down the M6 of an evening or weekend.

At least when the missus drags you off to IKEA to buy more overpriced tat you don't need you can pop into decathlon on the way back. Went in the new store on the weekend and I was impressed. It's massive and there's loads of bike stuff there.

  • I reckon they'll have done their homework on that move and it'll give them extra visitors off the M6 link, purely because anyone coming from the east is going to find it much easier than going to Dudley. Its quite easy to get lost around Merry Hill anyway. They've just moved themselves closer to the biggest area of potential buyers.

Ikea seems more attractive now as well - it will lower my resistance to queueing my way up the M6 with the missus if I can sneak off while she tries to work out what a 'FIKBORD' is actually used for !

£15 million is about right for a new store to open, epsecially when you factor in new fixtures and fittings plus stock to fill the store.
The new store has potential to expand again in the future is demand needs it.Not all of the available space is opened up yet for sales showroom.
If your postcode is not working for online sales drop an email to your local store which can be done from www.Decathlon.co.uk and they will then send the details to our online team who will sort this issue out for you.

Nah - bollox to em - ordered my sons bike from somewhere else.

Thought the website was pathetic as well - it proudly announces internet shopping for the whole of the uk - then tells me they can't deliver - but I can collect instore - don't think they have quite grasped internet shopping yet.
    Hope they go bust

Interent shopping is new to us and we do have a few bugs in the system. It is not as plain sailing as people think. We are working hard and will get it sorted.

I hope we don't go bust or I'll be out of a job, but thankfully I think we'll be just fine.

It isn't a bug though is it ?

Your site announces web shopping is available to the whole of the uk - I can go through and order stuff - add it to my basket - but then I am told you don't do home delivery - and I have to collect instore. That seems by design to me.

The warning messages that appear in french - when I haven't completed a field is a bug though

.....Be a very brave person that orders from the web site as it stands !

Their method of selecting a store for home delivery is slightly bizarre, but hoping they go bust is uncalled for when they are trying to expand and bring more affordability to sporting goods in the UK.

Personally I think the new store will be much better traffic wise. Getting in or out of merry hill is a nightmare unless you know the shortcuts (i don't) there are so many turn offs you're always stuck behind a queue trying to get into an overfull car park. I'd hoped they'd keep both though, I used to nip in when I got dragged to the big mothercare.
