Veloce to Record

Haven ridden for a couple of years with Veloce on both my winter and good bike, I would like to buy a Record groupset for putting on my good bike in the spring.
Thats the plan and I'm am only doing it if I train well over the winter and of course providing nothing blows up in the house or car, and requires my funds instead.
Ive never experienced anything above Veloce at all. I have gradually over the years purchased bits as I can afford them and already have good wheels, (campag eurus).
Can anyone tell me what to expect in terms of performance from Record compared to my current 08 Veloce? I know it looks good which we all like, but it has more than looks............... right ?

you can do worse than start here, select a component and in the top right side, select 'compare' in the drop down
http://www.campagnolo.com/jsp/en/groupset/catid_4.jsp
to sum up...
11 speed
lighter weight
ball bearings in the brake arms
ceramic bushes in the rear mech lower pulley which i assume is the jockey wheel
greatly enhanced esthetics due to use of higher quality materials
slightly slicker shifting and more refined feel
likely to keep performing the same for longer
law of diminishing returns. they are all great components.
chorus is better value than record if cycling budget is restricted, and could allow upgrades to all the other components at the same time.
on the other hand, record is only £200 less than super record, and only £300 less than super record with ti crank axel with the red crank badge 8)
its genuine passion mixed with clever marketing. i am sure it would be possible to win the 2011 tour de france on veloce.0 -
You'll find the shifting on the new 11 speed much crisper and lighter, but honestly I would reconsider getting record unless you just have to have it. I've got various campag groups and I would say that Athena is really excellent value. Definitely an improvement on 10 speed record and barely any noticeable difference to super record (that I can tell anyway). I've not had it long though, so potentially the quality may not be as good, but I see no logical reason why it wouldn't be. You can always mix and match though. I tend to go for Chorus cassettes as they wear better than record and are much cheaper, but you can still get the shifters if you want the record logo0

i was advised against upgrading to record by a well know'n bike shop as there would'nt a be any great differance in performance just bling0

"Peter Chisholm" <chisholm2744@comcast.net> This guy is a Campag specialist in the US
whom I get my Campag advice from. He too, said that the performance benefit of Record over
Veloce is negligible.
I also remember a few years back when I went out riding with a friend and his wife. He had
Campag Record on his bike and she had Mirage. As we all had similar size bikes and used
the same pedals, we swopped machines for part of the ride. To be honest, I didn't notice any
difference between the Mirage and Record groupsets in operation.0 -
Thanks for comments- good thought provoking stuff0

I've had a few different Campagnolo gruppos on various bikes, Chorus, Centaur, a Comp triple set up, Record 10 sp, and Super Record 11 sp.
With the exception of the triple which was a b@$tard to set up correctly, they were all excellent. The big differences I noticed anywhere were with rear derailleurs - Record and SR both stand out for precision shifting, and the Super Record cranks on ceramic bearings are amazingly good, even compared to carbon crank Chorus 10sp.
Other than that, it's all good gear!Open One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0
