Hi, I'm racing through the winter and am hoping to do the soggy bottom series as well as some others. I run Racing Ralphs or Rocket Rons in the summer but what's the best XC race tyre for the mud and slime of winter? I want something light but grippy, want to try avoiding too many offs. Most of the chunky tyres seem to be mainly downhill annd weigh a ton.

Any advice or favorites?
Doesn't matter what you got, just ride it hard !

Mud X's aren't that light, but they're great in wet mud, IMO they're a bit draggy on hardpack and not great in sticky mud though. Schwalbe Dirty Dans look similar and weigh a lot less, not heard any reports though.

If it's sticky mud then Schwalbe Black Sharks in 1.5" is the way to go!
