Hi,

I've got a Genesis road bike with flat bars, which I want to change to road bars and in the process change the current 8sp to 10sp ...
I'm wondering if my current triple sora chainset will be compatible with a 105 front derailleur.

If you are keeping the triple chainset then the 105 front mech and left gear shifter will have to be triple as well.

I think you're right about the shifter but the mech should have enough throw to use on a triple if the limit screws are adjusted right.

    Thanks guys!
I was going to get triple shifter and will change the FD anyway (my current is for 8sp ...)
My question is really whether there could be any need to change the chainset! From a triple to another triple ... That's what they told me in my local bike shop (of course I told them I wanted to stay triple and not go to double/compact)

You should be ok but what can happen with that set up is the chain drops between the rings. Try it and see and see before you shell out for a new chainset.

Unlikely to drop between the rings.

And your 8sp front and rear mechs should be OK, you should just need 10sp shifters, cassette and chain.

Having said that, if your front mech is a Sora 8sp triple, I found mine to be a bugger to set-up and replaced it with a 105.
