7speed freehub to 9 speed

Hi All,
The rear wheel on my 98 Spech Hardrock has a Shimano FH-RM40 hub. This is a 7-speed freehub and I'd like to upgrade to 9 speed.
I believe I'd have to redish the rear wheel if I went for a 9speed freehub. Can this be confirmed? There is no spacer behind the current 7-speed cassette.

new 8/9spd body and a redish needed minimum.
if the current hub has a 130mm OLD you will also need to adjust the frame. if alloy it aint really happening."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

don't expect much from 9 speed, the new lower gear is massively offset by the speed that these things wear out.Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0

Should be a 135mm OLD, but you're going to need a new rear wheel basically. Not worth it IMO.0

so what is the O.L.D.?
130 or 135?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

there are 2 7spd RM40 hubs
one
two
you can see the 135mm configuration. remove that spacer and fit an 8/9spd body and have the wheel redished.
but as it is a 135mm OLD i would just get a new wheel."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
