Whay are there so many different sizes !!!
Here goes, my expensive control tech bottom bracket packed up after a year of dry riding!! so I have replacements and tw chainsets so heres the problem.
Original chainset was control tech with control tech BB which is standard 68mm shell width, 1.37" x 24t thread and splindle was 113mm.
I have a new cset and BB which is FSA but the BB is Italian thread 36mm and 70mm shell width and 108mm length so cannot use it.
I also have a new FSA BB 1.37" 24T but it is 118mm length!!
So can I use this 118mm in place of the 113mm?
I have looked at the sizes of the cranks and they look identical thickness so not sure why the FSA was on a 108mm length previously?

Ok, after reading on the net I have found that isis BB's are symmetrical so for a 5mm increase in legth it apparently moves each crank out by 2.5mm, so increasing the chain line, so what effect does this have other than probably having to adjust my front changer?
I guess the Italian was only 108mm as it has 70mm cups so almost equivalemt to 113mm?
I think I needed a 113mm so will chck with bike shop as I am sure thats what I asked for anyway!!0
