Yes I've searched and I've read What lights II - return of the killer thread but like the rabbits on Cannock Chase I am drawn towards some new lights from Lumicycle

Just wondered if anybody has some - wot they like an' all that? LED or HID etc :?

I should add that my lights have to be 100% reliable - no prisoners - and I don't want to modify/cobble/bodge anything together, just charge them up, throw them on and go.

TIA

I've got lots of Lumicycle stuffs:

    LED3 Spot
    LED3 Flood
    4 Halogen Lamps (with various bulbs - 1W LED, 5W, 10W, 12W, 20W & 35W Halogen)
Elite Battery (small, fits in a backpack)
Endurance Battery (large, fits under the top tube)
    NimH Battery (bottle version, heavy)
    Chargers for the above
    Helmet bracket
    Extension cables

    That's about £600's worth!

Quality is excellent, as is the customer service. They are not the cheapest (or most expensive) lights out there, but you seem to get what you pay for. Been using them for the past 3 years. The only problem I've had have been:

    1. Shorting the small battery, which Lumicycle fixed FOC and even sent me a replacement battery to use whilst mine was being fixed.

    2. Some heat damage to the inside of one of the halogen light units after using the 35W halogen bulb for too long. That said, it still works, I just don't use the 35W bulb any more.

    That's quite a collection El Capitano :)

Do you use the LED3 spot & flood together?

I have done, but TBH, it's a bit overkill. I raced my night laps at SITS with just the LED3 Flood on the bars and a 20W Halogen on my helmet. More than enough light.

HID is a bit outdated nowadays to be honest. Tend to be heavier than LED, and the bulbs are expensive if they pop. 190 quid for 700 lumens at that weight - LED are better in almost all areas I reckon.

I was very tempted to get a HID set. Very bright. However after chatting with the Lumicycle guys at Dusk 2 Dawn a few years back, they mentioned the LED lights were in development, so I waited for them. IIRC, there is also a finite number of times you can turn a HID lamp on/off.

Thanks fellas. Do you think an LED3 flood would be a reasonable upgrade from a Vision 4?

I've not used a Vision 4, so it wouldn't really be fair to comment.

I use the LED 4 spot handlebar mount with the elite bag battery for road use on very unlit roads.

Absolutely stunning performance, I actually mainly use it in flash mode which lights up the road very well indeed. The battery seems to last forever!

I still have 2 halogen lights with the li-ion 4.2 bottle battery, I usually had 12w spot and 20w mide beam. Usually the 12 w was on and I used the 20w as "full beam" ,very effective indeed.

The halogen system has not been used for several months, the battery still holds fantastic charge. ought to sell it.

Do not get the HID, as stated above, the technology has moved on and they are expensive and drain battery power compared to LED and they cannot be dimmed or flash as well.
