Anyone ever bought anything from these far East retailers on eBay who sell what looks like replica kit (WINTER THERMAL FLEECE CYCLING JERSEY+BIB PANTS) for next to nothing? Too good to true?

e.g. ringwise2009 - http://shop.ebay.co.uk/ringwise2009/m.html

It looks OK but the fit is not great and the material doesn't seem to have the same elasticity. Don't buy white shorts ( embarassingly see through!).
  • I got a thermal team jacket off one of these sellers, someone with "525" in their username I think, it`s great quality material, just get a larger size than you would normally. Well pleased with it :)

I've bought a few and in general they are fine.

As stated above, buy a larger size than you normally would.

Thanks for the info (even though I didn't ask the question). Been looking for something similar for ages - and didn't know these existed! (Ebay - like looking for a needle in a haystack sometimes!)

Yes - glad i bought my Cervelo jacket off ebay rather than paying biiiig bucks for the real thing, as it was out of date before i had a chance to ride in it. So much team kit is updated mid season these days that the window of opportunity to be in the right kit is very limited. My jackets fine - as good as ones I've had in the past - maybe not as 'technical' as the proper team kit - but it was a fraction of the cost. I would go a size up though.

Can't believe people are happy to wear knock-off kit - I suppose financing organised crime, people trafficing, drugs and prostitution is a worthy cause?
Just wait to those knock-off Pinarellos and Zipp wheels get here - caveat emptor
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Plenty of people in the West pay for prostitutes and drugs. I'd think thats a bit more of a direct link than some dodgy cycling kit.

I must have missed the bit in the Godfather where they decide to get into counterfeit lycra ?

    They are already here.

I don't buy into the "drugs and prostitution thing", however, you are "supporting" sweatshops and forced labour, but then again, you are if you buy anything from the major manufacturer anyway, where do you think that stuff comes from?
  • I've found the summer stuff to be pretty good, especially the jerseys, at least as good quality as my Santini and Craft stuff. Shorts are OK but not quite as good. Great for the money though.

I've tried a couple of the "thermal" winter jerseys and they've been hillariously bad. An FDJ "thermal" jersey was made of a thin mesh type material, shaped like a t-shirt, miles bigger than you'd expect and some of the logos were wrong "Lapierre - Ultimate Eyeles"!

A Saxo one was rubbish too, crap shape, nasty colouring. However, the genuine Saxo thermal jersey is absolutely fantastic, so not fair to compare the two.

I wasn't really looking for team replica kit (and not really into this 'follow a team thing'), but just for a cheaper alternative to the sponsored team gear (in fact, I went for the least looking sponsered gear I could find!). But will happily dye the kit any colour like if t makes people feel better LOL

The "drugs and prostitution thing" is a complete myth. China doesn't really have any copyright laws (well it does, but just not very strict), so this stuff is far from 'underground'

Time will tell if it's any good... but for £40 for the top and bottom - it's got to be worth a try

  • I agree springtide9 - like you I don't want to get into the team stuff or look like a better rider than I am. I was just looking for cheap kit as I've just spent more than I should have on a new bike. Some of this stuff is so cheap that it's probably worth a punt.

Thanks all for your responses. I'll ponder a tad more before deciding.
