Help! Anthem alternative - sub £1.5k XC Full susser?

Hi,
I've being trying to get a 2010 or 2nd hand Anthem in XL. I ride mainly XC in Devon - Dartmoor, Newnham, Cann Woods etc and the Anthem seemed like the ideal bike for this. I can't get an XL for under 1.5k for love nor money, so I'm starting to look at alternatives. I was thinking about a stumpjumper, but need to go and sit on one. Any other suggested alternatives?
Thanks
Dan

The Stumpy is now a 140mm travel trail bike so not really the same type of bike. Boardman FS pro is a bit closer in spec (120mm travel) and under £1,500.

  • Thanks for that, I don't think the Boardman frame goes big enough for me though. I'm 6'4" and currently have a 21" Hardrock, and didn't fit on the 20" Anthem (hence the need for the XL - 22"). I know frames sizes aren't always comparable, but how does the Boardman frame square up against these?

    Cheers

  • Have you looked at the Specialized Epic Comp ?

Tinterweb says they have XL in stock on the above link, but would e-mail first to double check stock as some companies dont update thier sites that often.

Hmm - good point. Boardman doesn't do XL: I am 5'10" and the medium (Hybrid) is fine for me so you may find the large coming up short, but no harm going into Halfords to check.

The Stumpy may now be a 140mm bike but the Camber is Spesh's new 120mm XC bike.

  • 50 quid over budget, but looks v. nice. Forks aren't bolt through though are they (as far as I can see)?

Cube do a 22" frame, the AMS110 range sounds like it's the right sort of bike for your needs

    AMS (100mm) Comp £1399: Here

    AMS 110 Pro £1647: Here

I have last years AMS Pro, it's stunning. Fast, lightweight, agile, perfect for xc/marathon rides. I've even got a few airmiles on it & it shrugged it off no problem, well worth a look

  • I hadn't considered the Cube's - they look good, although I've not heard great things about the Manitou Radium shock on the Comp. There's a local Cube dealer, so I'll head down there next week

I believe Certini have started selling Cube's and also have the 2010 Epic and Stumpy comp for less than £1500
