Broken lever body

Received my new (2nd hand,) Juicy Ultimates today. Downloaded the manual and just tried to fit them. As per the instructions, I tightened the top bolt first til there was no gap (though didn't tighten it further, and then tightened the lower bolt. It wasn't even tight, yet heard a crack and the lever body around the top bolt had snapped.
Now I appreciate that I wasn't using a torque wrench, but the top bolt was only tight enough so that there was no gap and the lower bolt wasn't even tight. Obviously I am not the original owner but they are 09's and may be under 2 years old so would theoretically be under warranty if I were the original owner. Is there anything I can do apart from scrap them?

looks like you have over tightened them as there is normally a good size gap on the bottom bolt area."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

This is a pic on the underside, surely that's not too tight a gap?! It didn't even feel tight and was only using a stubby multi-tool so wasn't much leverage. So if I have fecked up, means it is scrap then?

To salvage, see if you can drill through the thread (through to the outside) with the correct size drill, and tap the rest of the body so you have a new threaded section for a longer bolt (M5 is it?). If you could file a flat where the bolt exits, you could even possibly fit an external nut.
Possibly. But seems feasible, if you can do this yourself it's cheap and hence worth a try.Giant Reign X10
