Component swap - good choice!?

I'm getting the Veloce 10 components which will come on my Wilier next month changed over to Athena 11 components - is that a good move?
I'm doing it becasue I want a slightly higher grade groupset on there that weighs a little less! I just hope that achieves it!

Any upgrade, is a good upgrade!
I tried the Athena stuff out at the weekend, very nice groupset, Im temptred by the offer on at Merlin at the moment to put it aside for my new project next summer!0 -
The new Athena is very beautiful, I've seen it at the Show in Earls Court, especially the full alloy one, without horrible plastic bits on the Ergo levers... might weigh 100 grams more in all, but it looks stunning
11 speed replacement parts are more expensive than 10 and that's the only downsideleft the forum March 20230 -
Buy Athena by all means if that's what takes your fancy, but if you're looking for weight savings you'll be disappointed.
If you check the weights on the Campag website, the complete 2011 Athena group is only about 100g lighter than Veloce.
Best bang for the buck in terms of weight savings is almost always wheels.Alex0
